Spanish ImmersionSchool includes six hours a day of class. Fours hours are "in class" and two hours are out-and-about.
We put in class in quotes because class is non-traditional, relaxed and friendly, highly conversational, and fun.
During our out-and-abouts, you'll participate in the daily life and culture of Xalapa. You'll be actively involved in what's going on around you. You'll do what you always do when you're involved, you'll talk. Since those around you will be speaking in Spanish, you will to. And the magic of Xalapa and the State of Veracruz will be yours.
Your time in class, in classes limited to two students, will center on speaking and listening skills and includes vocabulary, grammar as you need it, and structure as you need it. Class is highly individualized and your personal goals and language needs help shape the specifics of the content. We honor adult learners and work as fully as practicable to present instruction in the style best suited to your learning.
We also honor the limited time students have in language immersion. We are highly focused on your learning. That we are so focused allows you to relax, have fun, and learn far faster and more fully than in a traditional setting.
Outside of class, evenings and on weekends, Xalapa is alive with music, art, and friendship. In this very safe town, you'll wander narrow streets and enjoy beautiful open spaces. From time to time you'll rest in open-air cafes or on park benches. Day trips to Xico, Huastusco, the Cofre de Perote, Jalcomulco, and the ejido of Chavarrillo will allow you dazzling eco and adventure activites. Even with beginner level Spanish, you'll have no troubles. And the locals will always be ready to be of help.
Language Acquisition Philosophy
Our approach to language acquisition has you learning Spanish in context right from the start. Unlike traditional classroom which is almost exclusively a study of grammar and structure, our Spanish language immersion is focused on getting you speaking. We include all the grammar and structure you need, and we include it as you need it. What you are learning will be usable immediately in your spoken (and your written) language. Studying Spanish in context makes everything more sensible, more reasonable, and easier to remember. It also makes language immersion more fun.
